Interlock Cable Installation Note

  1. Install the interlock cable to the key cylinder.
    1. Switch the ignition to ACC.
    2. Install the interlock cable end to the key cylinder.
  2. Install the lock unit to the brake pedal.
    1. Align the slide pin with the marking of the lock unit.

    2. Insert a snap pin (or a round bar of 1.5 mm {0.059 in} diameter) into hole A with the slide pin inserted completely.
    3. Insert the other snap pins through hole B and hole C.
    4. Replace the brake switch with a new one. (See BRAKE PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Install the lock unit to the brake pedal bracket.

    6. Rotate the slide pin 90° as shown in the figure and verify that the slide pin contacts the brake pedal stopper.

    7. Rotate the slide pin 90° as shown in the figure.

    8. Verify that the slide pin is aligned with the marking of the lock unit.
    9. With the brake pedal released, connect the brake switch connector.
  3. Install the interlock cable to the selector lever component.
    1. Verify that the selector lever is in the P position.
    2. Fit the interlock cable in the U-groove in the selector lever component.

    3. Press the lock piece to lock the interlock cable so that no load acts on the cable.
  4. Pull out the pin from the lock unit.
  5. Verify that the interlock cable is properly installed.
    1. Inspect the operation of the shift mechanism. (See SHIFT-LOCK SYSTEM INSPECTION .) (See KEY INTERLOCK SYSTEM INSPECTION .)
    2. Inspect the brake switch. (See BRAKE SWITCH INSPECTION [ATX] .)
