Transaxle Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Do not lubricate the splines on the input shaft.
- Raise and position the transaxle to the engine.WARNING:
- Secure the assembly to the jack. Avoid any obstructions while lowering and raising the jack. Contact with obstructions may cause the assembly to fall off the jack, which may result in serious personal injury
- Install the 2 short transaxle-to-engine bolts.
- Tighten to 47 N.m {4.7 kgf.m, 35 ft.lbf}.
- Install the LH transaxle support insulator bracket.
- Raise the transaxle, aligning the bracket to the insulator. Install the 3 nuts.
- Tighten to 40 N.m {4.0 kgf.m, 30 ft. lbf}.
- Raise the transaxle, aligning the bracket to the insulator. Install the 3 nuts.
- Install the rear transaxle support insulator.
- Install the nuts, the bolt and through bolt. Tighten the through bolt to specification. Do not tighten the nuts and bolt at this time.
- Tighten to 103 N.m {10.5 kgf.m, 76 ft.lbf}.
- Install the nuts, the bolt and through bolt. Tighten the through bolt to specification. Do not tighten the nuts and bolt at this time.
- After removing the transaxle jack, install 4 long transaxle-to-engine bolts.
- Tighten to 47 N.m {4.7 kgf.m, 35 ft.lbf}.
- Install the front transaxle mount through bolt.
- Tighten to 115 N.m, {11.7 kgf.m, 85 ft.lbf}.
- Tighten the LH transaxle mount through bolt to specification.
- Tighten to 103 N.m, {10.5 kgf.m, 76 ft.lbf}.
- Tighten the transaxle rear support insulator fasteners to specification.
- Install the nuts and bolt.
- Tighten to 80 N.m {8.2 kgf.m, 59 ft.lbf}.
- Install the nuts and bolt.
- Remove the Engine Support Bar that was installed during the removal procedure.
- Install the RH engine support bolt.
- Tighten to 90 N.m {9.2 kgf.m, 66 ft.lbf}.
- Install the 3 upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.
- Tighten to 47 N.m {4.8 kgf.m, 35 ft.lbf}.
- Install the intermediate shaft and the 2 nuts.
- Tighten to 27 N.m {2.7 kgf.m, 20 ft.lbf}.
- Install the RH halfshaft onto the intermediate shaft.
- Connect the RH ball joint.
- Tighten to 63 N.m {6.3 kgf.m, 46 ft.lbf}.
- Connect the RH stabilizer bar link.
- Tighten to 55 N.m {5.5 kgf.m, 41 ft.lbf}.
- Connect the RH tie-rod end.
- Tighten to 55 N.m {5.5 kgf.m, 41 ft.lbf}.
- Install the brake hose and the clip.
- Position the ABS wire then install the bolt.
- Install the LH halfshaft.
- Connect the LH ball joint.
- Tighten to 63 N.m {6.3 kgf.m, 46 ft.lbf}.
- Connect the stabilizer bar link.
- Tighten to 55 N.m {5.5 kgf.m, 41 ft.lbf}.
- Connect the RH tie-rod end.
- Tighten to 55 N.m {5.5 kgf.m, 41 ft.lbf}.
- Connect the brake hose and install the clip.
- Position the ABS wire then install the bolt.
- Install the starter motor assembly. See STARTER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 2.5L or STARTER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Install the front-to-aft crossmember.
- Position the crossmember.
- Install the 2 bolts and a nut.
- Tighten the bolts to 90 N.m {9.0 kgf.m, 66 ft.lbf}.
- Tighten the new nut to 175 N.m {17.5 kgf.m, 129 ft.lbf}.
- Install the crossmember.
- Position the crossmember.
- Install the bolts.
- Tighten the new nut to 115 N.m {11.5 kgf.m, 85 ft.lbf}.
- Connect the clutch hydraulic tube.
- Position the clutch hydraulic tube.
- Connect the clutch hydraulic tube from the clutch slave cylinder.
- Install the clutch hydraulic tube bracket-to-transaxle bolt.
- Tighten to 2.5 N.m {0.25 kgf.m, 22 in.lbf}.
- Install the shift cable bracket.
- Position the shift cable bracket.
- Install the 3 bolts.
- Tighten to 22 N.m {2.2 kgf.m, 16 ft.lbf}.
- Connect the shift cables.
- Connect the reverse switch and vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connectors.
- Install the wiring harness bracket nut.
- Tighten to 12 N.m {1.2 kgf.m, 106 in.lbf}.
- Install the battery tray. See BATTERY TRAY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
- Install the air cleaner assembly. See AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 2.5L or AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Fill and bleed the clutch. See CLUTCH SYSTEM BLEEDING

CAUTION:- Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.
- Install the LH side splash shield.
- Position the LH splash shield.
- Install the 2 screws.
- Install the wheel and tire. See WHEELS AND TIRES .
