Possible Causes

WARNING:
  • Remove restraint system diagnostic tools from the vehicle prior to road testing. If tools are not removed, the supplemental restrainnt system (SRS) device may not deploy in a crash. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injuiry or death in a crash and possibly violate vehicle safety standards.
WARNING:
  • Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, safety canopy or side air curtain modules. Failure to foloow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
WARNING:
  • Never probe the elecrical connectors on safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioner or adaptive load limiting retractors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
CAUTION:
  • Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE:
  • The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 2 RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE RCM 0810-101B FOR DAMAGE
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Depower the SRS. See Depowering And Repowering , .
  • Disconnect: RCM connectors 0810-101a and 0810-101b.
  • Inspect the RCM connector 0810-101 a, harness side and RCM connector 0810-101a, component side, pins 17 and 18 for damage.
  • Are the RCM connector pins 17 and 18 OK?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the RCM connector pins as necessary. REPOWER the SRS. See Depowering And Repowering , . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
2 CHECK THE IGNITION CIRCUIT (GY/Y) FOR AN OPEN Yes Go to next step.
No VERIFY the smart junction box (SJB)fuse 8 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. REACTIVATE the SRS. See Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation And Reactivation , . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
3 CHECK THE RCM CASE GROUND
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Measure the resistance between the RCM case and a good sheet metal ground near the RCM.
  • Is the resistance less than 25 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the RCM case ground as necessary. REACTIVATE the SRS. See Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation And Reactivation , . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
4 CHECK THE HS-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) AND THE RCM FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between the RCM connector 0810-101a pin 18, circuit (W/L), harness side and the DLC connector D-1 pin 6, circuit (W/L), harness side.
  • Measure the resistance between the RCM connector 0810-101a pin 17, circuit (W), harness side and the DLC connector D-1 pin 14, circuit (W), harness side.
  • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit in question. REACTIVATE the SRS. See Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation And Reactivation , . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
5 CHECK FOR CORRECT RCM OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the RCM connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • damaged pins
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the RCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?
Yes INSTALL a new RCM. See Restraints Control Module (RCM) , . REACTIVATE the SRS. See Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation And Reactivation , . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REACTIVATE the SRS. See Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Deactivation And Reactivation , . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
