Idle Air Control Valve

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mazda Tribute, 2003 Mazda B4000, 2003 Mazda B3000, and 2003 Mazda B2300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: IAC valve has a diode and resistance will be infinite if DVOM is hooked up wrong.

Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is by-pass air type. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect IAC valve 2-pin harness connector. Measure resistance between IAC valve connector terminals. Connect DVOM positive lead to IAC valve connector VPWR terminal (Red wire on B-series truck, White/Red wire on Tribute) and negative lead to IAC terminal (Light Blue wire). Resistance should be 6-13 ohms. If resistance reading is not as specified, replace IAC valve. If resistance reading is 6-13 ohms, IAC valve is okay. For additional diagnostic testing and specifications, refer to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.
