Charging System Pinpoint Test 5: Charging System Warning Indicator Is Off With The Ignition Switch In The Run Position And The Engine Off

CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR IS OFF WITH IGNITION SWITCH IN RUN POSITION AND ENGINE OFF - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 5 THE CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR IS OFF WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE RUN POSITION AND THE ENGINE OFF
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Generator 0117-01 (2.3L)or 0117-04 (3.0L, 4.0L).
  • With the engine off, connect a fused (15A) jumper wire between the generator 0117-01 (2.3L) or 0117-04 (3.0L, 4.0L) pin 1, circuit GY, harness side and ground.
  • Key in ON position.
  • Is the charging system warning indicator illuminated? 
 Yes If 3.0L or 4.0L engine, install a new voltage regulator. See GENERATOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION 2.3L--> . Test the system for normal operation.
If 2.3L engine, install a new generator.
See GENERATOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION 2.3L--> . Test the system for normal operation.
No See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to diagnose the instrument cluster.
