Possible Causes

INTERMITTENT WIPER SPEED DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 4 THE INTERMITTENT WIPER SPEED DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs)
  • Retrieve and document continuous DTCs.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: - Clear continuous DTCs
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: - Wiper/washer SJB on-demand self-test
  • Are DTCs recorded?
Yes If DTC B2179, B2180, B2181, carry out the multifunction switch component test. See table at end of test. If the switch tests OK, go to next step.
No Carry out the multifunction switch component test. See table at end of test. If the switch tests OK, go to step 3.
2 CHECK CIRCUIT (G/V), (V/W), (L/O) AND (BR/W) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Multifunction switch 0918-104.
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280d.
  • Key in ON position.
  • Measure the resistance between ground and multi-function switch:
    • 0918-104 pin 1, circuit (G/V).
    • 0918-104 pin 2, circuit (L/O).
    • 0918-104 pin 3, circuit (V/W).
    • 0918-104 pin 4, circuit (BR/W).
  • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes Go to step 5.
No Repair circuit (G/V), (V/W), (L/O) or (BR/W) for a short to ground. Test the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT (G/V), (V/W), (L/O) AND (BR/W) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Multifunction switch 0918-104.
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280d.
  • Measure the resistance between multi-function switch:
    • 0918-104 pin 1, circuit (G/V) and SJB J-2280d pin 11, circuit (G/V).
    • 0918-104 pin 2, circuit (L/O) and SJB J-2280d pin 15, circuit (L/O).
    • 0918-104 pin 3, circuit (V/W) and SJB J-2280d pin 13, circuit (V/W).
    • 0918-104 pin 4, circuit (BR/W) and SJB J-2280d pin 17, circuit (BR/W).
  • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (G/V), (V/W), (L/O) or (BR/W) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT (G/V), (V/W), (L/O) AND (BR/W) FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
  • Measure the resistance between multi-function switch:
    • 0918-104 pin 1, circuit (G/V) and 0918-104 pin 2, circuit (L/O).
    • 0918-104 pin 1, circuit (G/V) and 0918-104 pin 3, circuit (V/W).
    • 0918-104 pin 1, circuit (G/V) and 0918-104 pin 4, circuit (BR/W).
    • 0918-104 pin 2, circuit (L/O) and 0918-104 pin 3, circuit (V/W).
    • 0918-104 pin 2, circuit (L/O) and 0918-104 pin 4, circuit (BR/W).
    • 0918-104 pin 3, circuit (V/W) and 0918-104 pin 4, circuit (BR/W).
  • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (G/V), (V/W), (L/O) or (BR/W) for a short together. Test the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION.
  • Disconnect all SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion.
    • damaged pins.
    • pushed-out pins.
  • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?
Yes Install a new SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) , . Clear the DTCs, Repeat the self-test.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test.
