Diagnostic procedure

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE - DTC B1869, B1870

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 INSPECT METER 10 A FUSE 
  • Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove the METER 10 A fuse.
  • Is the fuse normal?
Yes Install the fuse, then go to the next step.
No Replace the METER 10 A fuse.
2 INSPECT FOR CONTINUITY BETWEEN METER 10 A FUSE AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER 
  • Connect negative battery cable.
  • Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  • Measure the voltage at instrument cluster connector terminal 3J.
  • Is the voltage 9 V or more? 
Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair the related wiring harness.
3 INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND SAS CONTROL MODULE 
WARNING:
  • Handling the air bag system components improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag modules and pre-tensioner seat belts, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag system components.

  • Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more  .
  • Remove the column cover.
  • Disconnect the clock spring connector.
  • Remove the glove compartment.
  • Disconnect the passenger-side air bag module connector.
  • Disconnect the driver and passenger-side side air bag module connectors.
  • Remove the rear door lower trim.
  • Disconnect the driver and passenger-side pre-tensioner seat belt connectors.
  • Partially peel back the floor covering.
  • Disconnect the SAS control module connector.
  • Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
  • Inspect the wiring harness between SAS control module terminal 1T and instrument cluster terminal 3R for the following:
    • Short to ground
    • Short to power supply
    • Open circuit
  • Is the wiring harness normal?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Replace the air bag wiring harness.
4 INSPECT AIR BAG SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT 
  • Connect the instrument cluster connector.
  • Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  • Does the air bag system warning light illuminate?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Replace the instrument cluster.

5 INSPECT AIR BAG SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT 
  • Ground instrument cluster connector terminal 3R to the body using a jumper wire.
  • Does the air bag system warning light go out?
Yes [Present malfunction diagnosis] 
[Past malfunction diagnosis] 
  • DTC troubleshooting completed.
No Replace the instrument cluster.
