Fuel Filler Pipe Removal / Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See LIFTING .
    WARNING:
    • Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
    WARNING:
    • Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before repairing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.
  2. Relieve the fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF  .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. See BATTERY DISCONNECT .
  4. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe from the body housing.
    • Remove the 3 screws.

  5. Disconnect the fuel filler vent tube push-connect fitting at the fuel pump.

  6. Loosen the main filler hose clamp on the tank spud. Remove the hose from the tank spud, and remove the fuel tank filler pipe assembly from the vehicle.

  7. If necessary, separate the fuel tank filler pipes from the fuel tank filler hose and vent tube.
    • Loosen the hose clamps.
    • Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipes from the fuel tank filler pipe hose and vent tube.

  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
