No. 16 High Oil Consumption/Leakage

POSSIBLE CAUSE

16 HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION/LEAKAGE
DESCRIPTION  Oil consumption is excessive.
POSSIBLE CAUSE 
  • PCV valve malfunction
  • Improper dipstick
  • Improper engine oil viscosity
  • Engine internal parts malfunction
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

STEP INSPECTION RESULTS ACTION
1 Remove and shake the PCV valve.
Does the PCV valve rattle?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Replace the PCV valve.
2 Inspect for the following:
  • External leakage
  • Proper dipstick
  • Proper engine oil viscosity

Are all items normal?
Yes Inspect the internal engine parts such as valves, valve guides, valve stem seals, cylinder head drain passage, and piston rings.
No Service if necessary.
Repeat Step 2.

  • Verify test results.
    • If normal, return to diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.

      (See ENGINE SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING ).

    • If malfunction remains, inspect related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis.
      • If vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed.
      • If vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the PCM.
