PINPOINT TEST 6		THE GENERATOR IS NOISY
STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	CHECK FOR ACCESSORY DRIVE NOISE AND MOUNTING BRACKETS Key OFF. Check the accessory drive belt for damage and correct installation. See See ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT -- 2.3L for 2.3L or See ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT -- 3.0L (4V) for 3.0L. Check the accessory mounting brackets and generator pulley for looseness or misalignment. Is the accessory drive OK?	Yes	Go to next step.
1		No	REPAIR as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
2	CHECK THE GENERATOR FOR EXCESSIVE ELECTRICAL NOISE Disconnect the generator connector 0117-02 (3.0L) or connector 0117-03 (2.3L). With the engine running, determine if the generator is still noisy. Is the noise still present?	Yes	Go to next step.
2		No	INSTALL a new generator. See GENERATOR . TEST the system for normal operation.
3	CHECK THE GENERATOR FOR MECHANICAL NOISE Turn all the accessories off. With the engine running, use a stethoscope or equivalent listening device to probe the generator for unusual mechanical noise. Is the generator the noise source?	Yes	INSTALL a new generator. See GENERATOR . TEST the system for normal operation.
3		No	See ENGINE NOISE to diagnose the source of the engine noise.
