Pinpoint Test 3: The Engine Does Not Reach Normal Operating Temperature

PINPOINT TEST 3: ENGINE DOES NOT REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE

PINPOINT TEST 3 THE ENGINE DOES NOT REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE
  • Start the engine and allow the engine to idle for 10 minutes.
  • Key OFF.
  • Feel the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  • Are the upper and lower radiator hoses cold? 
 Yes Replace the thermostat. See THERMOSTAT AND THERMOSTAT HOUSING - 2.3L or THERMOSTAT - 3.0L (4V) .
No GO to PINPOINT TEST 6: INCORRECT TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATION for diagnosis and testing of the engine coolant temperature gauge.
