DESCRIPTION	Gasoline fuel smell or visible leaks

FUEL ODOR IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT INSPECTION/ACTION CHART

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	PRELIMINARY CHECKS Perform the following preliminary checks: Fuel lines. EVAP system (canister, canister vent solenoid, rollover/vent valve and related vacuum hoses). Fuel system (fuel injectors, fuel rail, fuel tank). Are all checks OK?	Yes	Go to next step.
1		No	Service as required. Verify symptom no longer exists.
2	VERIFY THAT FUEL PUMP IS OFF WHEN ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING NOTE: This condition would be associated with a fuel odor with the engine off. Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO). Wait 30 seconds and verify that the fuel pump shuts off after 5 seconds. Key OFF. Does fuel pump shut off?	Yes	Go to next step.
2		No	FUEL PUMP ALWAYS ON .
3	CHECK EVAP SYSTEM Go to step 1 of EVAPORATIVE EMISSION (EVAP) SYSTEM MALFUNCTION . Is a fault indicated?	Yes	Service as required.
3		No	Go to next step.
4	PERFORM PCM QUICK TEST See PCM QUICK TEST . Are any DTCs displayed during Continuous Memory, Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO), or Key ON, Engine Running (KOER) Self-Tests?	Yes	Check for cause. DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE NUMBERS .
4		No	Go to next step.
5	CHECK FUEL SYSTEM Check fuel system for possible sources of fuel odor. Is a fault indicated?	Yes	Service as required.
5		No	Go to next step.
6	Verify test results. If OK, see DIAGNOSTIC INDEX to service any additional symptoms.
