3	CRANKS NORMAL BUT WILL NOT START

CRANK INSPECTION/ACTION CHART

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	PRELIMINARY CHECKS NOTE: Extended cranking because of a "No Start" can load the exhaust system with raw fuel, damaging the catalytic converter after the engine starts. Perform the following preliminary checks: Fuel quality. Fuel Pump Shutoff Switch. Any external fuel shutoff devices (such as kill switch, alarm). Electrical connections. Intake air tube integrity. Fuses and relays. Are all checks OK?	Yes	Go to next step.
1		No	Repair as necessary. Verify symptom no longer exists.
2	PERFORM PCM KOEO SELF-TEST. ALSO RETRIEVE ANY CONTINUOUS MEMORY DTCS. Are any DTCs displayed during Continuous Memory or Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self-Tests?	Yes	Check for cause. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE NUMBERS .
2		No	See TEST 1: VEHICLE REFERENCE VOLTAGE (VREF) . If test results are OK, go to next step.
3	DOES THE ENGINE START NOW WITH THE THROTTLE CLOSED? Attempt to start engine with the throttle closed. Does the engine start now with the throttle closed?	Yes	Go to step 7.
3		No	Go to next step.
4	IDLE AIR CONTROL (IAC) CHECK Attempt to start engine at part throttle. Will the engine start and run smoothly at part throttle?	Yes	Possible IAC concern. Go to Step 2. See IDLE AIR CONTROL (IAC) VALVE ASSEMBLY MALFUNCTION .
4		No	Go to next step.
5	CHECK IGNITION/FUEL SYSTEM See TEST 14: NO START . Is a fault indicated?	Yes	Service as required.
5		No	Go to next step.
6	CHECK EXHAUST SYSTEM Is there a restriction in the exhaust system?	Yes	Service as required.
6		No	Go to next step.
7	CHECK BASE ENGINE See ENGINE . Is engine compression correct?	Yes	Go to next step.
7		No	Check for cause. See ENGINE .
8	Verify test results. If OK, see DIAGNOSTIC INDEX to service any additional symptoms. See ENGINE .
