Transaxle Installation: Installation

Lubricate the splines on the input shaft.
WARNING:
- Secure the transaxle to the transaxle jack with a safety chain. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
Raise and position the transaxle.
Install the transaxle.
- Install the 9 bolts.

Remove the transaxle jack.
Install the exhaust outlet pipe. See CATALYTIC CONVERTER -- 2.3L .
Install the front transaxle support insulator bracket.
1. Install the front transaxle support insulator bracket.
2. Install the 3 bolts.
3. Install the front transaxle support insulator.
4. Install the through bolt.

Install the RH intermediate axleshaft and the LH halfshaft. See HALFSHAFT -- FRONT DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY and see INTERMEDIATE SHAFT .
Install the starter motor assembly. See STARTER MOTOR -- 2.3L .
Install the LH side splash shield.
- Position the LH splash shield.
- Install the screws.

Install the LH splash shield screws.

Install the crossmember.
1. Position the crossmember.
2. Install the 2 bolts and nut.
3. Install the splash shield screw.
4. Install the 2 bolts.

Install the crossmember.
1. Position the crossmember.
2. Install the bolts.

Lower the vehicle.
Install the 3 upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.

Install the rear transaxle support insulator.
1. Position the rear transaxle support insulator.
2. Install the through bolt.
3. Install the nuts.
4. Install the bolt.

Install the LH transaxle support insulator bracket.
1. Position the LH transaxle support insulator bracket.
2. Install the through bolt.
3. Install the 3 nuts.

Remove the special tool supporting the engine.
Install the shift cable bracket.
1. Position the shift cable bracket.
2. Install the 3 bolts.

Connect the clutch hydraulic line.
1. Position the clutch hydraulic tube.
2. Connect the clutch hydraulic tube from the clutch slave cylinder.
3. Install the bolt.

Connect the shift cables.

Connect the reverse switch and vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connectors.

Install the wiring harness bracket nuts.

Install the air cleaner outlet tube.
1. Install the air cleaner outlet tube.
2. Tighten the clamp.
3. Connect the emission management tube and hose.

Install the battery tray. See BATTERY TRAY -- 3.0L (4V) .
Install the air cleaner assembly. See AIR CLEANER INTAKE PIPE -- 2.3L .
Fill the transaxle fluid. See TRANSAXLE DRAINING AND FILLING .
Fill and bleed the clutch. See CLUTCH SYSTEM BLEEDING .
Adjust the shift cables. See GEARSHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT .
