Steering Column: Installation

Fig 1: Loosely Installing Steering Column Support Nuts

Install the steering column and loosely install the steering column support nuts. Install and tighten the nuts to specification.

Tighten the steering column support bolt.

Connect the steering column shaft to the flexible coupling and install a new the pinch bolt and nut.

Position the boot.

Connect the electrical connectors.

If equipped, connect the selector lever shift cable to the lever and bracket.

Connect the multifunction switch and headlamp switch electrical connector.

Secure the harness to the gearshift housing.

Connect the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver module electrical connector and install the pin-type retainer.

Install the trim panel.

Install the air bag sliding contact.
- Install the screws.
- Connect the electrical connectors.

Remove the tape from the air bag sliding contact.

Center air bag sliding contact, turn clockwise until slight resistance is felt then turn counter clockwise 2.75 turns.

Align the air bag sliding contact tabs.
