Steering Column: Removal

  1. Remove the steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  .

  3. Remove the upper steering column shroud.

  5. Remove the lower steering column shroud

  7. Apply two strips of tape across the air bag sliding contact to prevent accidental rotation when the air bag sliding contact is removed.

  9. Remove the air bag sliding contact.
    • Remove the screws.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  11. Disconnect the multifunction switch and headlamp switch electrical connector.

  13. Disconnect the wiring harness.

  15. If equipped, disconnect the selector lever shift cable from the selector lever and bracket.

  17. Disconnect the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver module electrical connector and pin-type retainer.

  19. Remove the trim panel.

  21. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  23. Position the boot aside.

  25. Remove and discard the pinch bolt/nut and disconnect the steering column shaft from the flexible coupling.

  27. Remove the steering column support bolt.

  29. Loosen the nuts and remove the steering column.
