Starter Motor Removal/Installation - 2.3L

WARNING:
  • When repairing starter motor or performing any maintenance in the area of the starter motor, note the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Make sure the protective cap is installed over the terminal and is replaced after repair.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See LIFTING .
  3. Remove the left front inner fender splash shield.
  4. Remove the protective cap from the terminals.
  5. Remove the terminal nuts.

  6. Remove the starter mounting bolts and the starter.

  7. Install in reverse order of removal.
