Removal and Installation

WARNING:
  • Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING:
  • Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE - 2.0L ZETEC  or FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE - 3.0L DURATEC (4V) .
  2. For 3.0L (4V) engine, remove the throttle body. Refer to THROTTLE BODY .

  3. Remove the fuel pulse damper.
    1. Disconnect the vacuum line.
    2. Remove the bolts and the damper.
  4. Inspect the O-ring seal and install a new seal if damaged.
    CAUTION:
    • Use an O-ring seal made of fuel-resistant material. Use of incorrect O-ring seals may result in fuel leakage.
    CAUTION:
    • Never use silicone grease. Silicone grease may clog the fuel injectors.
    NOTE:
    • Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean SAE 5W-30 motor oil to aid installation.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
