Removal and Installation

NOTE:
  • If a heater core leak is suspected, the heater core must be leak tested before the heater core is removed. For additional information, refer to HEATER CORE PRESSURE TEST  .
  1. Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING for 2.0L Zetec engine or COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING for 3.0L (4V) engine.

  2. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.
  3. Remove the instrument panel. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL .

  4. Remove the heater blending door levers.
    1. Remove the screw for heater blending door.
    2. Remove the levers for the blending door.

  5. Remove the heater core.
    1. Remove the three screws.
    2. Remove the cover for the heater core and pull the heater core out of the housing.
      NOTE:
      • Before installing the temperature control cable, make sure the blend door, cable and temperature switch are correctly positioned. For additional information refer to TEMPERATURE BLEND DOOR CONTROL CABLE .
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
