Test G: Generator Is Noisy
NOTE:
For circuit and connector identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS and CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
.
- Check For Accessory Drive Noise And Mounting Brackets
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check accessory drive belt for damage and correct installation. See SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING article in ENGINES. Check pulleys and belt for looseness or misalignment. Repair as necessary, then retest system. If drive belt is okay, go to next step. - Check Generator For Electrical Noise
Disconnect generator electrical connector A-168. Start the engine. Determine if the generator is still noisy. If the noise is still present, go to next step. If noise is not present, replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. - Check Generator For Mechanical Noise
Turn all accessories off. With the engine running, use a stethoscope or equivalent listening device to probe the generator for unusual mechanical noise. If the generator is the noise source, replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If generator is not noise source, inspect other engine components for possible failure.
