Belt Deflection

Inspect the drive belt deflection when the engine is cold, or at least 30 minutes after the engine has stopped. Apply moderate pressure, 22 lbs. (98 N), midway between the specified pulleys. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If the deflection is not within the specification, adjust as necessary. See BELT DEFLECTION/TENSION SPECIFICATIONS  table.

Used 0.28-0.35" (7.0-9.0 mm)

New 160-180 lbs. (690-830 N)
Used 110-150 lbs. (500-680 N)
Limit 88 lbs. (390 N)

New 0.30-0.35" (7.5-9.0 mm)
Used 0.32-0.37" (8.0-9.5 mm)
Limit 0.43" (11.0 mm)

New 140-170 lbs. (590-780 N)
Used 110-150 lbs. (500-680 N)
Limit 88 lbs. (390 N)
(1) Apply 22 lbs. (98 N) of pressure midway between the specified pulleys. A belt that has been on a running engine for less then five minutes.
(2) Using Belt Tension Gauge (49 9200 020A), or equivalent, inspect the belt tension between any two pulleys.
