Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Record freeze frame data. Check for service bulletins and on-line information. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to next step.
  2. Classify Intermittent Concern Or Continuous Concern -  Start engine and increase engine speed to more than 3800 RPM. If DTC P0660 is present, go to next step. If DTC P0660 is not present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  3. Inspect IMCC Actuator Connector For Poor Connection -  Turn ignition off. Disconnect IMCC actuator harness connector. Check for damaged, loose or corroded terminals. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is present, repair terminal or connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  10.
NOTE: Wire color changes between IMCC actuator and main relay at inline harness connector "X-03".
  4. Inspect IMCC Actuator Power Supply Circuit For Open Circuit -  Turn ignition on, engine off. Measure voltage between ground and IMCC actuator harness connector terminal "A" (White/Red wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open circuit between IMCC actuator harness connector terminal "A" (White/Red wire) and main relay terminal "D" (Yellow wire). After repair, go to step  10.
  5. Inspect IMCC Actuator Control Circuit For Short To Power -  Turn ignition off. Measure voltage between ground and IMCC actuator harness connector terminal "B" (Red/Black wire). If battery voltage is not present, go to next step. If battery voltage is present, repair short to power in Red/Black wire between IMCC actuator harness connector terminal "B" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 28. After repair, go to step  10.
  6. Inspect IMCC Actuator Control Circuit For Short To Ground -  Check for continuity between ground and IMCC actuator harness connector terminal "B" (Red/Black wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Red/Black wire between IMCC actuator harness connector terminal "B" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 28. After repair, go to step  10.
  7. Inspect PCM Connector For Poor Connection -  Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Check for damaged, loose or corroded terminals. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is present, repair terminal or connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  10.
  8. Inspect IMCC Actuator Control Circuit For Open -  Connect 104-pin Breakout Box (49-UN01-130) to PCM harness connector only. See Figure. Check for continuity between IMCC actuator harness connector terminal "B" (Red/Black wire) and breakout box terminal No. 28. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open in Red/Black wire between IMCC actuator harness connector terminal "B" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 28. After repair, go to step  10.
  9. Inspect IMCC Actuator Malfunction -  Check IMCC actuator. See INTAKE MANIFOLD COMMUNICATION CONTROL - MPV under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MAZDA6, MIATA, MPV, PROTEGE & PROTEGE5 article. If IMCC actuator is okay, go to next step. If IMCC actuator is faulty, replace IMCC actuator. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Verify Trouble Shooting Of DTC P0660 Completed -  Reconnect all disconnected connectors. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, clear DTC. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Increase engine speed to more than 3800 RPM. Recheck DTCs. If DTC P0660 is present, replace PCM. After repair, go to next step. If DTC P0660 is not present, go to next step.
  11. Verify After Repair Procedure -  Using scan tool, perform After Repair Procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE . If no other DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any other DTC is present, go to applicable test and repair.
