Disassembly Note

  1. Remove the propeller shaft; see PROPELLER SHAFT FRONT (4X4) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  , see PROPELLER SHAFT REAR (4X2) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  or See PROPELLER SHAFT REAR (4X4) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  .
    CAUTION:
    • Do not clamp the propeller shaft in the jaws of a vise or similar holding fixture.
  2. Index-mark the propeller shaft.
  3. Remove the propeller shaft slip yoke boot.
    1. With the front propeller shaft on a bench, cut and discard the propeller shaft slip yoke boot clamps.
    2. Separate the propeller shaft slip yoke from the splined stub shaft on the propeller shaft.
    3. Remove the propeller shaft slip yoke boot.
    4. Inspect the propeller shaft slip yoke boot for damage and replace if required.

  4. Inspect the lubricant for contamination. If contaminated, inspect the stub shaft and propeller shaft slip yoke for wear. Replace the propeller shaft as needed.
