Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to DLC-2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Monitor for FREEZE FRAME DATA and ensure data has been recorded. Check service bulletins for repair information related to this DTC. If repair information is not available, go to next step. If repair information is available, perform diagnosis and repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 7.
- Disconnect TP 3-pin harness connector. Check damaged or corroded terminals. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step 7.
- Check resistance between TP sensor terminals "A" and "B". See Figure. Resistance should be 3200-4800 ohms. Check resistance between TP sensor terminals "B" and "C". Resistance should be 200-1200 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace TP sensor. Go to step 7.
- Check continuity between ground and TP sensor 3-pin harness connector terminal "B" (Orange wire). See Figure. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, go to step 6.
- Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Check harness connector and PCM for damaged or corroded terminals No. 89 (Brown/Yellow wire), 90 (Pink/Black wire) and 91 (Orange wire). If any problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step 7. If no problem is found, repair open circuit in Orange wire between PCM 104-pin harness connector and TP sensor 3-pin harness connector and go to step 7.
- Check continuity between TP sensor harness connector terminals "A" and "C". See Figure. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short between circuits and go to next step.
- Reconnect all connectors. Start engine. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Race engine several times. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0123 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. If DTC P0123 is not present, go to next step.
- Cycle ignition switch from off to on. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no other DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any other DTC is present, go to applicable test and repair.
