Shift Cable: Installation
CAUTION:
Bending the shift cable will damage the cable and cause it to become loose during shifting. See Fig 1
. When handling and installing the shift cable, hold it straight.
- Install shift cable and install bolts at firewall. Install shift cable nut at gearshift lever. See Fig 2 . Tighten shift cable bolts. Tighten shift cable nut. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install steering column covers. See Figure .
- Shift the gearshift lever and manual shaft to Park position. Install the shift cable to the manual selector lever so that the spring side of the shift cable end faces upward. See Figure .
- Install the shift cable to the bracket securely. See Figure . Install the shift cable to the manual selector lever bolt. Adjust shift cable. See SHIFT CABLE under ADJUSTMENTS.
- After adjusting shift cable, install the air cleaner assembly. See Figure . Install the battery, battery tray, and battery tray bracket. See Figure . Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
