Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate article in ENGINES.
  3. Remove 3 bolts holding blind cover and gasket to Variable Valve Timing (VVT) actuator. Remove blind cover and gasket.
  4. Hold cast hexagonal part of intake camshaft with an adjustable end wrench or equivalent to prevent the camshaft from rotating, and loosen the lock bolt.
  5. To install, rotate camshaft and face knock pin to top position. Align hole in VVT actuator with knock pin on camshaft. Install bolt in end of camshaft. While holding cast hexagonal part of camshaft, tighten VVT actuator bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install blind cover and NEW gasket to VVT actuator. Tighten to specification. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
