Flasher Unit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Mazda Protege, 1999 Mazda Millenia, 1999 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 1999 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Locate flasher unit behind left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Leave flasher unit harness connector attached unless otherwise specified. Using DVOM, backprobe at specified terminals of flasher unit harness connector while performing appropriate test condition. See appropriate FLASHER UNIT TEST table. See Fig 1 or Fig 2 .
  2. If voltage measurements or continuity are not as specified, check related components and wiring. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  and appropriate component tests. If related components and wiring are okay, but system is still not functioning properly, replace flasher unit.
FLASHER UNIT TEST (MILLENIA)

Terminal (Signal)/Test Condition Value
"A" (Ground)/At All Times (1)
"C" (Hazard Switch)
Hazard Switch Off Battery Voltage
Hazard Switch On Zero Volts
"D" (Left Turn Signal Light)
Ignition On; Left Turn Signal On Alternates Between Zero Volts & Battery Voltage
