DTC P0463: Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Circuit Input High: Testing
NOTE:
Record freeze frame data. Check for service bulletins and on-line information.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for FTL V. If FTL V PID is more than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If FTL V PID is 4.9 volts or less, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit connector. Check for connector or terminal problems. If problem is not present, go to next step. If a problem is present, repair as necessary and go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition on. Connect a fused jumper wire between fuel gauge sending unit harness connector terminals "A" (Gray/Red wire) and "C" (Black/Orange wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for FTL V. If FTL V PID is more than .1 volt, go to next step. If FTL V PID is .1 volt or less, repair or replace fuel gauge sending unit. Go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition on. Check voltage between fuel gauge sending unit harness connector terminal "A" (Gray/Red wire) and ground. If voltage is 4.5-5.5 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 4.5-5.5 volts, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. PCM is mounted to passenger floor, behind glove box. Check PCM terminals. If a problem is present, repair as necessary and go to step 7 . If no problem is present, repair open in Gray/Red wire between fuel gauge sending unit harness connector terminal "A" and PCM harness connector terminal No. 63. See Figure . Go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition off. Check continuity between fuel gauge sending unit harness connector terminal "C" (Black/Orange wire) and ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open on Black/Orange wire between fuel gauge sending unit and ground. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all components. Turn ignition on. Erase DTC. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Recheck DTCs. If DTC P0462 is pending, replace PCM and go to next step. If DTC P0462 is not pending, go to next step.
- Perform after repair procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE . If DTC is not present, testing is complete. If any DTC is present, go to appropriate test for diagnosis and repair.
