DTC P0462: Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Circuit Input Low: Testing
NOTE:
Record freeze frame data. Check for service bulletins and on-line information.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for FTL V. If FTL V PID is less than .1 volt, go to next step. If FTL V PID is .1 volt or more, problem is intermittent. Go to TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit connector. Check for connector or terminal problems. If problem is not present, go to next step. If a problem is present, repair as necessary and go to step 6 .
- With fuel gauge sending unit connector disconnected, turn ignition on. Using scan tool, access PID/DATA MONITOR. Record PID data for FTL V. If FTL V PID is less than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If FTL V PID is 4.9 volts or more, repair or replace fuel gauge sending unit. Go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted to passenger floor, behind glove box. Check continuity between fuel gauge sending unit harness connector terminal "A" (Gray/Red wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short in Gray/Red wire between fuel gauge sending unit harness connector terminal "A" and PCM harness connector terminal No. 63. See Figure . Go to step 6 .
- Check continuity between fuel gauge sending unit harness connector terminals "A" (Gray/Red wire) and "C" (Black/Orange wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short in wire harness between fuel gauge sending unit harness connector and PCM harness connector. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all components. Turn ignition on. Erase DTC. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Recheck DTCs. If DTC P0462 is pending, replace PCM and go to next step. If DTC P0462 is not pending, go to next step.
- Perform after repair procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE . If DTC is not present, testing is complete. If any DTC is present, go to appropriate test for diagnosis and repair.
