Disassembly & Inspection

CAUTION: Depress one-way clutch inner race only enough to remove snap ring. Over-pressing will damage one-way clutch inner race edges.
  1. Remove snap ring, retaining plate, drive and driven plates, dish plate and snap ring. Compress one-way clutch inner race. Remove snap ring. Remove one-way clutch inner race and piston return spring.

Use air pressure to remove low/reverse brake. Maximum air pressure is 14 psi (1.0 kg/cm2 ). See Figure . Check for worn drive (friction) and driven plates. Measure drive plate thickness in 3 places, and calculate average value. Drive plate minimum thickness is .057" (1.45 mm). Check snap ring for wear and cracks. Check for deformed spring. Check piston for damage or wear and seal contact area in transaxle case for damage.
