Master Cylinder Push Rod
- Before installing master cylinder, measure clearance between master cylinder piston and power brake unit push rod. Remove seal and plate component from power brake unit and install power brake unit gasket. See STEP 1 in illustration. See Fig 1
. Place Adjusting Gauge (49-E043-001A
) on power brake unit and tighten locknuts to 87-138 INCH lbs. (9.9-15.6 N.m). See STEP 2 in illustration. See Fig 1
.
- Using a hand-held vacuum pump, apply 19.7 in. Hg vacuum to power brake unit. Measure distance between end of Gauge Rod and outer end of Adjusting Gauge Assembly (49-E043-001A
). This will be depth measurement "L". See STEP 2 in illustration. See Fig 1
.
- Depth measurement "L" should be 1.38" (35.1 mm). If depth measurement is as specified, go to next step. If depth measurement is not as specified, adjust push rod length using Push Rod Adjuster (49-B043-004
) and Adapter (49-E043-003A
). See STEP 3 in illustration. Fig 1
. After push rod length has been corrected, go to next step.
- Using Retainer Installer (49-E043-002A
), reinstall retainer and seal and plate component. See STEP 4 in illustration. See Fig 1
