Generator Warning Light Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Check generator wiring harness connections and drive belt tension. Fully charge battery before testing. Wait at least 30 seconds after starting engine before measuring system voltage.
  1. Verify battery is fully charged. Charge as necessary
  2. Verify that the drive belt deflection/tension is within the specification. See BELT DEFLECTION  under ADJUSTMENTS. Adjust as necessary.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON position and verify that the generator warning light illuminates. If not, inspect the generator warning light and wiring harnesses between the battery and generator warning light and between the battery and generator terminal "L". See Fig 1 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Turn the ignition switch to START and verify that the generator warning light goes out after engine starts. If not, inspect the generator. See ON-VEHICLE TESTS
