Diagnostic Procedure
- Remove rear cover on transmitter. See Figure . Inspect battery for correct installation and type (CR2025). Check for rust or poor connections between terminals and battery. Repair any problems found and go to step 6 . If no problems were found, go to next step.
- Check battery voltage. See TRANSMITTER BATTERY under COMPONENT TESTS. If battery voltage is as specified, go to next step. If battery voltage is not as specified, replace battery and go to step 6 .
- Inspect keyless control module bracket and ground screw for loose installation. If bracket and ground screw are securely installed, go to next step. If bracket or ground screw is not securely installed, tighten bracket or ground screw and go to step 6 of PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Substitute known-good battery in transmitter and retest. If anti-theft/keyless entry system works properly, replace battery and go to step 6 . If anti-theft/keyless entry system does not work properly, go to next step.
- Using another known-good transmitter, reprogram keyless control module ID code. See CHANGING KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE ID CODE under PROGRAMMING. If anti-theft/keyless entry system works properly, replace transmitter. If anti-theft/keyless entry system does not work properly, replace keyless control module. See KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reprogram keyless control module ID code and go to next step.
- Recheck anti-theft/keyless entry system operation. If system is functioning properly, repairs are complete. If system is still malfunctioning, go back to step 1 and retest system.
