DESCRIPTION
There are several cases where you are required to have the latest level of software when using the IDS/PDS. Some examples include:
- Performing a reprogram to fix vehicle quality issues as per our Service Information.
- Properly identifying a newly released vehicle after we fixed the database for the current DVD software.
Therefore it is important to update to the latest level of software in a timely matter until you get the next VCM DVD, which is delivered every other month. The IDS is capable of downloading the necessary update files from the Internet and updating its software and database to the latest level that is currently available. The PDS can be updated by the PFM, which has a similar update capability.
There are two different types of update files, one is a DIF file and the other is a Patch file.
- A DIF is an update file for the diagnostic database that the IDS/PDS refers to. It is released at the end of every week.
- A Patch is an update file that modifies or adds functions to the IDS/PDS. It is released on an irregular basis.
After the update, the version information can be viewed on the Information screen. As an example, "41.5 P1" means that the database level is "41.5" and the Patch level is "P1".
The first thing to do is to set up your IDS/PFM properly. Then we suggest that you update your IDS/PDS (PFM) software once a week through the Internet to ensure you are using the latest level of software.
- For IDS, refer to IDS UPDATE PROCEDURE THROUGH INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER under REPAIR PROCEDURE.
- For PFM/PDS, refer to PFM/PDS UPDATE PROCEDURE THROUGH INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER under REPAIR PROCEDURE.
