Test 4: Windshield Fogs

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Turn front A/C and blower motor switches to ON position. If cool air blows out from front vents, go to next step. If cool air does not blow out from front vents, go to TEST 11: NO COOL AIR  .
  2. Check A/C fuse (10-amp) located in joint box behind left kick panel. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repair, replace fuse and recheck system operation.
  3. Check air intake actuator for proper installation and lubrication. Ensure no obstruction hampers actuator and linkage movement. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  15 . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Disconnect front A/C-heater control panel 12-pin harness connector. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at front A/C-heater control panel harness connector terminal "B" (Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or high resistance in Pink wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repair, go to step  15 .
  5. Observe air intake door linkage operation. If air intake door linkage repeatedly alternates between outside air and recirculated air mode, go to next step. If air intake door linkage does not function as described, go to step  8 .
  6. Check air intake actuator. See ACTUATORS  under COMPONENT TESTS. If air intake actuator is okay, go to next step. Replace air intake actuator if faulty. See ACTUATORS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  15 .
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using DVOM, check Yellow wire for continuity between front A/C-heater control panel harness connector terminal "C" and ground. Also check Brown wire for continuity between front A/C-heater control panel harness connector terminal "E" and ground. If continuity does not exist in either wire, replace front A/C-heater control panel. See A/C-HEATER CONTROL PANEL  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity exists in either wire, repair short to ground in suspect wire(s). After repair, go to step  15 .
  8. Remove air intake actuator. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Place front blower motor switch in maximum speed position. If air intake mode changes smoothly when air intake linkage is operated by hand, go to next step. If air intake mode does not change as described, go to step  13 .
  9. Check air intake actuator. See ACTUATORS  under COMPONENT TESTS. If actuator is okay, go to next step. Replace air intake actuator if faulty. See ACTUATORS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  15 .
  10. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using DVOM, check Yellow wire for continuity between front A/C-heater control panel harness connector terminal "C" and air intake actuator harness connector. Also check Brown wire for continuity between front A/C-heater control panel harness connector terminal "E" and air intake actuator harness connector. If continuity does not exist in either wire, repair open or high resistance in suspect wire. After repair, go to step  15 . If continuity exists in both wires, go to next step.
  11. Using DVOM, check Yellow wire for continuity between front A/C-heater control panel harness connector terminal "C" and ground. Also check Brown wire for continuity between front A/C-heater control panel harness connector terminal "E" and ground. If continuity does not exist in either wire, go to next step. If continuity exists in either wire, repair short to ground in suspect wire(s). After repair, go to step  15 .
  12. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at front A/C-heater control panel harness connector terminals "C" (Yellow wire) and "E" (Brown wire). If battery voltage does not exist in either wire, replace front A/C-heater control panel. See A/C-HEATER CONTROL PANEL  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage exists in either wire, repair short to battery voltage in suspect wire(s). After repair, go to step  15 .
  13. Check blower unit air intake door for foreign material or obstruction which would limit operation. Remove foreign material or obstruction as necessary. After repair, go to step  15 . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  14. Check blower unit air intake doors for proper installation and positioning. Also check air intake doors for damage. Repair air intake doors as necessary. After repair, go to next step.
  15. Operate A/C-heater system to verify repair. If airflow is correct and windshield does not fog, repair is complete. If windshield still fogs, recheck malfunction symptoms and return to step  1 .
