Description & Operation

Steering column is available in standard or tilt column. Both columns are of modular design. Wiper/washer, turn signal/hazard, horn/dimmer and ignition switches are mounted on column. Switches can be serviced by removing upper column shroud, driver-side air bag module and steering wheel.

The energy-absorbing steering column collapses upon frontal impact. A cylindrical impact bumper is used on upper bracket to absorb impact loads. Key release button prevents inadvertent locking of steering wheel. Ignition switch is operated by a pin mounted on lock actuator rack. Ignition switch is pinion-driven by rotating ignition key.

WARNING: To avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  .
