Battery Will Not Stay Charged

  1. Check Battery Drain

Turn ignition off. Ensure all lights and accessories are off. Check for battery drain. See BATTERY DRAIN TEST  . If draw is greater than 0.5 amp, repair or replace components as necessary. If draw is 0.5 amp or less, go to next step.
  2. Check Generator Output

Start engine. With engine running at 2000 RPM, check voltage at generator output terminal (Black/Orange wire). If voltage is 13-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 13-15 volts, replace generator. Restore electrical connections and check system operation.
  3. Check Battery Condition

Ensure battery is not internally shorted by testing battery capacity and battery state of charge. Replace battery if necessary. If battery is okay, drain may be caused by faulty electronic module. Check for battery drain with module(s) disconnected. Repair as necessary.
