Test A - All Power Windows Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to data link connector. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID IGN_GEM while turning ignition switch to START, RUN, OFF and ACC positions. If PID values agree with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If PID values do not agree with ignition switch positions, repair wiring or replace ignition switch as necessary. Retest system operation.
  2. Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous DTCs from GEM. Clear DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform On-Demand self-test for GEM. If no DTCs exists, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to appropriate step. See DTC TEST STEP table.
    DTC TEST STEP

    DTC Go To
    B1302 Step 4)
    B1304 Step 4)
    B1313 Step 3)
    B1314 Step 3)
    B1315 Step 3)
    B1342 (1)
    (1) Clear DTCs. Retrieve continuous DTCs. If DTC B1342 still exists, replace GEM.
  3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, access GEM PID BATSAV. Monitor GEM PID BATSAV while triggering GEM active command BATSAVR ON and OFF. If GEM PID BATSAV values agree with command mode, go to next step. If NGS tester indicates OFFO-G or ON-B-, repair appropriate battery saver relay circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in appropriate ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  4. Using NGS tester, access GEM PID ACCDLY. Monitor GEM PID ACCDLY while triggering GEM active command ACCY RLY ON and OFF. If NGS tester indicates OFFO-G, go to next step. If NGS tester indicates ON-B-, go to step 8). If GEM PID ACCDLY values agree with command mode, go to step 10).
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove power window relay. Measure voltage at terminal No. 4 (Light Green/Orange wire) at power window relay harness connector. See Fig 1 . If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Light Green/Orange wire.
  6. Check power window relay. See RELAYS  under COMPONENT TESTS. If power window relay is okay, go to next step. If power window relay is defective, replace power window relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
  7. Disconnect GEM 18-pin harness connector T-224. Measure resistance in Light Blue/Red wire between terminal No. 2 at power window relay harness connector and terminal No. 17 at GEM harness connector T-224. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Light Blue/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
  8. Test power window relay. See RELAYS  under COMPONENT TESTS. If power window relay is okay, go to next step. If power window relay is defective, replace power window relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
  9. Disconnect GEM 18-pin harness connector T-224. Ensure power window relay is removed. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 2 (Light Blue/Red wire) at power window relay harness connector. See Fig 1 . If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Light Blue/Red wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If voltage does not exist, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
  10. Remove fuse No. 4 (20-amp) from power distribution box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If fuse fails again, repair short to ground in Red/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
  11. Remove power window relay. Measure voltage at terminal No. 1 (Red/Light Blue wire) at power window relay harness connector. See Fig 1 . If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Red/Light Blue wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
  12. Test power window relay. See RELAYS  under COMPONENT TESTS. If power window relay is okay, repair open and/or short to ground in Light Blue/Black wire. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If power window relay is defective, replace power window relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
