Converter Clutch Test

Connect tachometer to engine. Ensure engine and transmission is at normal operating temperature. Drive vehicle at approximately 50 MPH (80 km/h) in "D" position (overdrive on). Release throttle for about 2 seconds then reapply throttle to previous setting. Engine RPM should increase when throttle is released (clutch disengages). Engine RPM should decrease in about 5 seconds (clutch engages), after throttle is reapplied. If converter clutch does not engage or is engaged continuously, see appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article.
