Component Testing: Speedometer
NOTE:
Tire size, wear and incorrect inflation can affect speedometer reading and odometer measurement.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Open driver's door. Remove 15-amp ENGINE fuse located in joint box, behind left side of instrument panel. Wait 30 seconds after disconnecting negative battery, and then reconnect negative battery cable.
- Perform the following within 30 seconds after completing step 1). Turn ignition on. Press door switch 3 times. Press odometer/tripmeter switch 3 times.NOTE: Service codes are set in numerical order only. If a different service code is set in error, return to step 1) and reset instrument cluster input/output check mode.
- Reinstall 15-amp ENGINE fuse. Press odometer/tripmeter switch, and then set service code 12. Observe speedometer 2 seconds after service code 12 is set. If speedometer needle moves full scale and indicates 37 MPH, speedometer is okay. If speedometer needle does not move full scale and indicate 37 MPH, replace speedometer.
- To cancel instrument cluster input/output check mode, turn ignition to LOCK position, and then back to ON position, or leave speedometer in check mode for 45 minutes.
