Component Testing: Speedometer

NOTE: Tire size, wear and incorrect inflation can affect speedometer reading and odometer measurement.
  1. Ensure tires are properly inflated. Using a speedometer tester, verify speedometer is within allowable range. See SPEEDOMETER VARIATION SPECIFICATIONS  . Verify speedometer needle fluctuation is within one mile of allowable range.
  2. If speedometer needle is not functioning properly or is out of allowable range, remove and inspect speedometer cable and driven gear. If driven gear and cable are functional with no signs of wear or damage, replace speedometer.
