Abs Hydraulic Unit & Control Module Inspection

NOTE: Ensure ABS related DTC(s) are cleared before performing this test. See CLEARING CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  1. Ensure battery is fully charged. Turn ignition on and verify that ABS warning light goes out after 2-4 seconds. If ABS warning light goes out after 2-4 seconds, go to next step. If ABS warning light stays on, an ABS related failure is indicated and ABS control module will not activate. See CIRCUIT TESTS  .
  2. Turn ignition off. Raise and support vehicle evenly on level ground. Shift transmission to Neutral. Release parking brake. Rotate wheels by hand, observing brake drag.
CAUTION: Connecting jumper to wrong Data Link Connector (DLC) terminals may cause malfunction.
  3. Connect a jumper wire between DLC terminals TBS and GND. See Figure . Depress brake pedal, and have an assistant verify that right front wheel will not turn. Keep brake pedal depressed, then turn ignition on. Brake should momentarily release (about 0.5 second) and that right front wheel should turn when pressure reduction operates.
  4. Check operation of remaining wheels, starting from left front, then to rear wheels. If brakes operate as specified, brakelines, ABS hydraulic unit, ABS system electrical, ABS control module, module output system and related components are okay. If brakes does not operate as specified, go to next step.
  5. Replace ABS hydraulic unit if wheels do not rotate. Check brakelines to ABS hydraulic unit if wheels rotate, but rotation/pulsing order is not correct (releasing every 0.5 second). Turn ignition off and remove jumper from DLC.
