Power Steering Pump: Disassembly

  1. Remove mounting bracket and pulley from pump. Remove outlet fitting, flow control valve, spring and reservoir. See Figure .
    CAUTION: When clamping pump in vise, DO NOT exert excessive force on front hub or pump. Hammering on ANY pump components during assembly/disassembly may cause damage.
  2. Place "C" clamp in vise. Install Lower Support Plate (T78P-3733-A2) over pump rotor shaft. See Fig 1 . Install Upper Compressor Plate (T78P-3733-A1) into "C" clamp. Place pump assembly into "C" clamp with rotor shaft facing down.
  3. Tighten "C" clamp until slight bottoming of valve cover is felt. Insert small drift through access hole in side of pump housing plate. Push valve cover retaining ring inward and remove ring using screwdriver. See Fig 2 .
  4. Remove pump from "C" clamp. Remove valve cover and "O" ring seal. Push on rotor shaft. Remove rotor shaft, cam, rotor, slippers and upper plate. Remove cam insert and 2 dowel pins.
  5. By tapping housing on flat surface, remove lower plate and disc spring. Remove "O" ring. Using a screwdriver, remove rotor shaft seal and seal retainer.
