Regulator Circuit "S" Test

  1. Disconnect wiring harness connector from regulator. Connect a jumper wire between regulator terminal "A" and terminal "A" of wiring harness connector. See Fig 1. Connect a jumper wire between regulator terminal "F" screw and generator rear housing (ground). See Fig 1.
  2. Start engine and allow to idle. Connect voltmeter negative lead to generator rear housing. Connect voltmeter positive lead to terminal "S", then to terminal "I" of regulator wiring harness connector. Voltage at terminal "S" should be approximately half the voltage indicated at terminal "I". If voltage is as specified, replace regulator. Remove jumper wires and repeat LOAD TEST .
  3. If voltage is not as specified, repair faulty wiring circuit, or repair or replace generator. Reconnect wiring harness connector to regulator. Repeat LOAD TEST  with voltmeter positive lead connected to battery positive terminal.
