Test No. 1
- Check 50-amp fuses No. 1 and 2 located in engine compartment fuse/relay box located on left inner fender panel. Check for clean, tight connections. Check for loose or damaged wires. Repair as necessary. Replace fuses as necessary. Go to next step. If fuses, connections and wiring are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Check 50-amp fuse No. 2 for an open. If fuse is open, go to next step. If fuse is not open, go to step 4).
- Turn ignition on. Check 50-amp fuse No. 1 for an open. If fuse is open, repair open in Yellow wire. Replace fuse and retest system. Go to next step. If fuse is not open, go to next step.
- Check 7.5-amp fuse No. 25 located in instrument fuse panel under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition off. Remove 50-amp fuse No. 2 from engine compartment fuse/relay box. Check continuity at fuse No. 2 socket to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, repair Tan/Black wire. Replace fuse No. 2 or fuse No. 25 as necessary and retest system. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) Scan Tool (49-T088-001) to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS scan tool, select DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE, and then ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST. Turn ignition on. Note Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Press CANCEL. Select RETRIEVE/CLEAR CONTINUOUS DTCS. Note DTCs. If DTC B1342 (continuous and self-test) is set, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system. If DTC B1342 is not set, go to next step.
- Check terminals No. 5 (White/Yellow wire) and No. 11 (White/Yellow wire) of 18-pin GEM connector for loose or backed-out terminals. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. If terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Check for open in terminal No. 11 (White/Yellow wire) of 18-pin GEM connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair open in White/Yellow wire as necessary. If White/Yellow wire is okay, go to next step.
- Check continuity between terminals No. 14 (Black/White wire) and No. 26 (Black/White wire) of 26-pin GEM connector, or check continuity at terminal No. 18 (Black wire) of 18-pin GEM connector to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, using NGS scan tool, select ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and note DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION for diagnosis. If continuity does not exist, repair Black wire or Black/White wire.
