No-Load Test

CAUTION: To prevent starter damage, DO NOT operate starter under no-load condition for more than 5 seconds.

Remove starter. With ammeter connected in series, apply battery voltage to starter by connecting positive battery cable to starter solenoid terminal "M" (large terminal) and negative cable to starter case. As starter operates, note current draw. If current draw exceeds specification, repair or replace starter. See STARTER SPECIFICATIONS TABLE  .
