Retrieving Codes

  1. Test drive vehicle. DO NOT turn ignition off. Locate and disconnect Gray ABS 1-pin short connector in left side of engine compartment. Attach a jumper wire to Gray/White wire terminal of check connector and momentarily ground it to chassis. When ground connection is made and broken, ABS warning light will begin to flash.
  2. A flashing pattern starts with a number of short flashes and ends with one long flash. To identify malfunction, count all short flashes and include long flash in total count. See DIAGNOSTIC CODES IDENTIFICATION table.
  3. Pattern will repeat until ignition is turned off. If more than one code is stored, only one fault code will be flashed. After fault has been repaired, any remaining code(s) will be flashed one by one.
  4. If a flashing pattern cannot be obtained, check brake fluid level and ABS fuse. Test ABS control unit and check for a grounded check connector lead. See COMPONENT TESTING under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  5. After indicated fault has been corrected, test drive vehicle and recheck diagnostic system for other stored codes.
