Hydraulic System Test

ABS control unit has a self-diagnostic function to check hydraulic system operation. During diagnostic mode, ABS control unit activates hydraulic unit to reduce hydraulic pressure to right and left front wheels, and right and left rear wheels in sequence for .5 second each at 1.5-second intervals.

Before proceeding, verify battery is fully charged and ABS warning light goes out after engine is started. If ABS warning light stays on after engine is started, ABS control unit detects failure and will not activate hydraulic unit.

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Ensure all wheels are off ground. Shift transaxle into Neutral. Release parking brake. Manually rotate wheels and check for brake drag.
  2. Using a jumper wire, connect Green/Black wire and Black wire of check connector. Check connector is located at ABS control unit, under driver's seat. Remove driver's seat to access check connector. See Figure . Depress brake pedal. Ensure right front wheel will not turn.
  3. With brake pedal still depressed, turn ignition switch to ON position. Brake should release and wheel should rotate freely for approximately .5 second when pressure-reduction operates. Check remaining wheels in order: left front, right rear, left rear. Replace hydraulic unit as necessary.
