Anti-Lock Brake System: Description

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent rear wheel lock-up. The anti-lock brake system consists of ABS control unit, hydraulic unit, speed sensor, sensor rotor, pressure differential switch and a check connector. See Fig 1 or Fig 2 . MPV models also have an ABS relay. On all models, an ANTI-LOCK warning light is located on the instrument panel.

ABS system can be diagnosed using a volt-ohmmeter and ANTI-LOCK warning light on instrument panel. When a malfunction is detected, the ABS control unit will hold a code in memory. If ANTI-LOCK warning light stays on or flashes after engine has been started, it indicates a code is present.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see see BRAKE SYSTEM article.
NOTE: Illustration of ABS component locations for Navajo is not available from manufacturer.
