Throttle Cable

NOTE: Oil pressure gauge is needed to properly adjust throttle cable.
  1. Remove left splash shield, near left front tire. Remove lower pressure port plug. Connect the oil pressure gauge to the port. See Fig 1 .

  2. Move the gearshift lever to the "P" (Park) position. Start engine, and warm it to normal operating temperature. Make sure engine is running at its normal idle speed. Check throttle pressure. Refer to the THROTTLE PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS  table. If pressure is not within specification, adjust throttle cable.

    Protege & 323 73-75 (5.1-5.3)
  3. With engine running, loosen adjustment bolt/nut. Adjust throttle cable until pressure reading is within specification. See Fig 2 .
  4. Tighten throttle cable adjustment bolt/nut when pressure is within specification. Turn engine off. Remove oil pressure gauge. Install pressure port plug, and tighten it to 44-89 INCH lbs. (5-10 N.m). Install left splash shield.
